Welcome to the National Construction Week website. National Construction Week 2006 (NCW'06), an initiative of the Department of Public Works, is a nation-wide awareness campaign to promote the image and profile of the construction sector, to give young learners the opportunity to experience a wide range of exciting opportunities available in today’s built environment and construction sector.

NCW'06 will be held from 27 July 2006 – 3 August 2006 and we envisage hundreds of events hosted country-wide by government infrastructure departments, academic institutions and the private sector. Events will include site and office visits conducted by the private sector, “open days” by academic institutions, hands-on demonstrations of construction skills, organising national construction-related competitions, and many more.

With this initiative being the first of its kind hosted in South Africa we will endeavour to assist industry and government by providing as much information as possible towards hosting, branding and generating publicity for their NCW'06 events.

If you wish to host an event and don’t know where to start, proceed to the Event Guidelines where you will find a multitude of event ideas, including guidelines to facilitate a site visit, and site visit safety considerations. We have also outlined the nature of Event Assistance we can provide to make your event a success.

All events and initiatives are aimed at creating awareness of opportunities in the construction industry among young learners. We are therefore encouraging all event hosts to brand their events with the NCW'06 logo and merchandise (which can be ordered via this website towards the end of March 2006), and to create publicity for their events in the local media. We have therefore developed a Media Publicity Guide which will assist event hosts to compile their own media releases.

Companies, academic institutions and government institutions hosting events, listed on the website may brand any of their publications, promoting their support for NCW'06.
